Green Prairie Lodge

Green Prairie lodge is an 8 unit complex located in the town of Rathwell which provides affordable housing for seniors. In 2024 Green Prairie Lodge completed upgrades to the lounge side of the common room with new age-appropriate furniture thanks to Age Friendly Manitoba, a display cabinet, puzzle table and new bingo board from the proceeds of a Tiger Hills Community Foundation grant and a fresh coat of paint thanks to Co-op’s Communities in Full Colour Program. We are currently fundraising and applying for grants to upgrade the kitchen side of the common room, as the MILES for Seniors meal program operates 5 days per week from our kitchen and it’s starting to show its age. Caitlin puts on an amazing meal, we encourage more seniors to check out the monthly menu, call the lodge at 749-2274 to sign up.

Other successes in 2024 were the addition of plants, shrubs and a tree to the patio area. Again, thanks to Tiger Hills Community Foundation for their financial contribution, Roberta Allan for donating shrubs, to the students of Treherne Collegiate that attended to help plant and then returned in the fall to do some weeding and oiling of the benches, and to Crusher’s Quarry for donating the perennial grasses and landscape boulders. Finally, a big thanks to the volunteers that watered and weeded throughout the entire season as we had so many compliments on this area. Railing and a sun shelter will complete the project this spring.

On June 8th we’ll be hosting a 50th Anniversary barbeque. With the improvements and additions earlier mentioned, and the modern upgrades to all but one of the tenant suites, the board is excited to share and celebrate its accomplishments on this day. Unfortunately, the 50 year old stucco exterior is starting to crumble and most windows need replacing. We’re actively seeking sponsorship/donations, applying for grants and fundraising to help with these costs. The Elvis dinner theatre held April 12th was a success!

Bronze ($100-$249) Silver ($250-$499) Gold ($500+) sponsorship for the exterior repairs will be recognized in the common room, with tax receipts available.
